Early Times Report
srinagar, Apr 1: Vindicating a report carried by Early Times on March 18 over the possible revamp of the PDP ahead of the government formation, the office bearers of the party, Nizamudin Bhat, Rafi Ahmad Mir, Ved Mahajan, Mehbooba Iqbal, and Peerzada Mansoor Hussain, Political Advisor to PDP president Mehbooba Mufti, have resigned and relinquished their offices.
Sources privy to this development told Early Times that ahead of the government formation, the PDP chief had expressed serious concern over the feedback being received by her by the party workers over the functioning of the party on ground. While striving to go for a major revamp in the party, the PDP chief had asked several office bearers to resign ahead of the oath ceremony slated for April 4.
Sources said that the PDP chief is adamant to ensure restructuring of her new cabinet as well as of the party. They said that there has been a concern sauntering in the ranks of the PDP that overhaul in its affairs is the need of an hour. "Besides ensuring effective governance on ground, Mehbooba doesn't want to overlook what is happening within the party. She has exhibited much concern during the party meets over strengthening of the PDP on ground level," divulged a senior PDP leader.
Early Times had on March 18 carried a detailed report over the major overhaul in the party in offing. The report had stated that the PDP cadre including the party workers, functionaries and the activists while expressing hope that the state would soon witness the Mehbooba led BJP-PDP coalition, are of the opinion that to make the governance more effective , the PDP chief needs to make effective decisions vis-a-vis revamping of the party and the cabinet. They are of the opinion that there were some ministers in the past regime that were known for giving cold shoulder to the pleas made to them by the party workers. Meanwhile, at present, when stage is being decorated for Mehbooba Mufti to take over the reins of the power in the state, the party cadre wants her to take serious decisions to put lid over the crises that earlier had emerged due to worker-leader wedge.
Furthermore, sources revealed that besides the PDP revamp, a major overhaul could be witnessed in Mehbooba's cabinet. "Some new faces would be accorded the responsibility to head the ministries. There are also chances of some cabinet ministers during the tenure of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed shown the door to ensure new ones are tasked with the responsibilities," sources said, adding that besides the party veterans, those leaders who stayed with Mehbooba during the recent turbulent time would be prioritized for the key roles. "If anyone has the mis-conception that she knows nothing should introspect as during the stalemate period, there is hardly any development on state's political front that Mehbooba hasn't watched keenly," said a senior PDP functionary.
