BJP's politics irking Jammuites
'Mr Sharma, if there are no differences, why delay in Govt formation?'

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 1: J&K BJP president Sat Sharma has claimed that there are no differences between the BJP and the PDP over the issues of distribution of portfolios and share of Jammu in the Cabinet and the Council of Ministers and that these issues would be taken up only after the formation of PDP-BJP coalition government.
"The BJP has already decided to support PDP in the formation of the government in the state and as far as the date for swearing-in is concerned we will sit together and take a final decision on that. There are no differences today and there were no differences earlier also. The portfolio allocation would be decided at a later stage. The priority right now is about the date of swearing-in," Sat Sharma on Thursday responded when asked "whether there were any differences over the distribution of portfolios".
What the greenhorn in politics Sat Sharma claimed was a contradiction of sorts. How could he say that there were no differences between the two parties on these crucial issues and that the two issues, which are very dear to the humiliated people of Jammu region, would be discussed and resolved after the formation of the coalition government at the same time? And how would he explain the delay in the government formation even after both the parties met with the state Governor on March 26 and staked claim for the formation of the government?
The state BJP president, it appears, does not know what he says. Indeed, all is not well with the coalition and this could be seen from the contradictory stands the PDP president Mehbooba Mufti and BJP leader Nirmal Singh took on March 26 after meeting with the state Governor. While the PDP president had said there were no differences between the two parties over the issue of portfolio allocation and made it loud and clear that "what was with the PDP during the Mufti Sayeed's regime will remain with them and what was with the BJP will remain with it", Nirmal Singh said "there are issues which will be sorted out later".
Even on Wednesday, the PDP leadership made it clear that it will not concede any new demand of the BJP and that the BJP will have to accept the position it held during the time of Mufti Sayeed. This statement came after state BJP chief spokesperson Sunil Sethi and MLA Ravinder Raina told reporters in Jammu that since the BJP and the PDP had equal strength in the Assembly, the BJP would want equal share in the government. Earlier, BJP state general secretary (organization) Ashok Koul had also made similar statement and said, yes, the BJP wanted Finance, Planning and Law portfolios and that the issues were under discussion. Even Avinash Rai Khanna, who was here in Jammu on Tuesday, didn't reject the reports that there were differences between the two parties over these two issues.
Sat Sharma needs to take the people of Jammu province into confidence as they are the real stakeholders. He and others in the party can't again let them down by surrendering everything to Kashmir for the sake of a few insignificant portfolios. They want the BJP to respect the mandate that they gave to the BJP and the mandate was for fullfillment of their empowerment, against politics of separatism and for the state's complete integration into India. They will not accept anything short of this. They not only want equal representation in the cabinet and Council of Ministers and half of the portfolios, but they also want the post of chief minister for half of the tenure.
