Early Times Report

Srinagar, Apr 1: Ahead of the second innings of the Peoples Democratic Party-Bharatiya Janta Party alliance, the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industries (KCCI) on Friday severely criticized their first innings, even as it hailed Governor NN Vohra's rule. In a statement, a KCCI office bearer said: "His Excellency the Governor of J&K (NN Vohra) has raised the bar by several notches in terms of governance and administrative responsiveness. His tenure has shown the general public the impact a capable and competent leadership has on the administration and a roadmap for effective future governance is in place."
The KCCI said the previous government did nothing beyond selling dreams to the people and that it would have been better to have put Kashmir under Governor's rule post September-2014 floods tehn any hlding of Assembly elections.
"At this stage, the KCC&I would like to remind the incoming political dispensation about the dream they sold to the common man who were reeling under the trauma of the September floods. The people's expectations were high. In the following months the failure of the expectations were equally spectacular," the KCCI Secretary General Faiz Bakshi said in the statement.
"In hindsight, a common man cannot be faulted for wondering as to why Governor's Rule was not imposed immediately after the September Floods. The situation would have been much better in terms of relief and rehabilitation," the Kashmir Inc said.
The KCCI said the relief package as announced by the previous government was insignificant. "The relief package, when it came, proved to be no different from the packages being routinely announced. A majority of the package was related to strategic investments and repackaged schemes."
"The donations given during the floods to the PM's Relief Fund would surely have collected more for the common man. Bihar, without any calamity got more. Insurance companies paid more. The humanitarian relief and rehabilitation component turned out to be insignificant percentage of the package," the apex body of business in Kashmir observed.
It said the previous term remained stuck in controversies and achieved nothing on the ground. "The ten month rule was marred by controversies and disputes that held little meaning for a public waiting to be rehabilitated. Inner party politics took precedence over the public interest.
There was a distinguishable lack of coordination and purpose. Accountability and fight against corruption took a back seat," the KCCI said.
Without naming anyone from the previous council of ministers, the KCCI said: "One man took it upon himself to deliver. Media reports based on insights from senior leaders and other inputs point to the intense levels of pressure, which he endured. In the end, it was just too much for any human being."
In an apparently satirical tone, the KCCI said: "We pay respectful homage to the spirit of the man."
"Having now seen the priorities of the powers that be, the KCC&I urges the new leader to look towards unlocking the potential and resources within the State," the business community said in the handout.
"The credible leadership and a team with a sense of purpose is a precondition," the handout said adding "In the coming days, the KCC&I shall be enumerating important economic sectors and their problems."
