Basohli, Bani people resent withdrwal of inter-state bus service
4/20/2014 11:20:00 PM
BASOHLI, Apr 20: The people of Basohli and Bani tehsils, who often go outside state for various purposes including business, education and pilgrimage expressed resentment over the simultaneous withdrawal of the inter-state bus services from Basohli and Bani. The aggrieved people said that the decision of withdrawing inter-state bus service will severely affect the life of remote areas of Basohli and Bani. They said that after a hard struggle and tireless efforts by the natives of Bani and Basohli, the Punjab Road Transport Corporation and JKSRTC started their bus services from Basohli to Kulu, Delhi and Haridwar in the year 2001 and 2002. Honouring the religious sentiments of the people and facilitating their easy and comfortable journey to the capital city Delhi, Haridwar and Kulu, JKSRTC started daily and bi-weekly bus service for Delhi and Haridwar respectively and PRTC daily for Kulu from Basohli. The people of the area heaved a sigh of relief as they could perform their journey during night hours that too in one go. While the interstate SRTC services were still in operation in other tehsils of district Kathua these services were suddenly withdrawn from Basohli by the transport corporations of Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab Roadways simultaneously for the reasons best known to the authorities and are not restored till date. The withdrawal of these services has rendered great loss to the poor masses of the area who have no other cheaper alternative of transport with them because the devotees for Haridwar have to go for private taxies costing twenty to twenty five thousands rupees for a to and fro trip. It will be worth mentioning here that these bus services were getting good response from the passengers and always remained jam packed throughout their journey from Basohli to the places of their destinations and earned good revenue. Dharmsingh, Chet Ram, Mansa Ram all members of the group going outside the state told that due to the withdrawal of the services they are being looted of both precious time and money because the journey performed in piecemeal is always time consuming and costly.
