PDP files complaint against Farooq, seeks FIR
4/21/2014 12:34:44 AM
Early Times Report
Srinagar, April 20: Seeking registration of an FIR against National Conference President and NC's candidate from Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency, Dr. Farooq Abdullah, who had claimed 'if he had resources he would attack the PDP'; the Peoples Democratic Party filed a complaint in Police Station, Rajbagh the previous day.
A PDP spokesman said that though the application was accepted, police avoided giving the receipt of the application, which is required under law.
The Spokesman said by refusing to formally register an FIR the police are conveying a clear bias in favor of the ruling party candidate who had issued serious threats to the PDP. "The statement of Dr Farooq Abdullah is criminal in nature and cognizable offence of which the police should have taken suo moto notice," he said.
The Spokesman said it is unfortunate that the NC is getting away with all kinds of violations the latest by Dr Farooq Abdullah being the most serious in nature. He said the inability of the Election Commission of India to take action on the complaints from Jammu and Kashmir reinforces the feeling that double standards are being practiced when it comes to the state and rest of the country.
FIRs have been registered against senior leaders in other states apparently on milder charges but NC which through its electoral malpractices in the past has brought destruction in the state continues to be treated as 'king's party', the Spokesman said and added such an attitude could vitiate the entire electoral process once again in the state.
In the complaint, PDP has contested that the utterances made by Farooq Abdullah makes out a dual case of threat to PDP cadres and incitement to his own cadre to resort to attacks on PDP workers. In the same breath Farooq Abdullah has expressly promoted enmity between different groups and made intentional assertions which has caused disharmony and feeling of enmity and hatred between various classes of people. The statement made by Farooq Abdullah is an open threat to the cadres of the PDP which has caused an alarm to the people affiliated with PDP and the people in general who are ideologically opposed to NC are contemplating not to vote after having been intimidated by the president of NC, which otherwise legally they are entitled to. The paper cutting of different newspapers which have carried the statement are enclosed here with for ready reference.
