Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 20: In yet another instance that speaks of irony and paradoxes in state unit of BJP, all senior leaders comprising top leadership of J&K have now converged at Amritsar for a specific task- canvassing for party stalwart Arun Jaitley who is contesting from this Parliamentary constituency. The irony is for the fact that what they did not do for their candidates on two seats of Lok Sabha in the Jammu region, is being given to understand , would be the role which in a way is self assigned task, albeit with a motive-to get registered in the eyes of this towering leader as also in trying to undo the damage with their 'still' performance in own state vis-a-vis their contribution in the campaigning.
Sources said almost all the top level leaders of state unit have shifted to Amritsar for the purpose of giving strength to campaigning in support of Jaitley, which is now in last phase, polls scheduled on April 24. While some are camping there for the last few days, few more have swiftly moved on to register their presence, whether it matters or not for Jaitley. Campaigning in support of Jaitley or putting in efforts to garner votes in his favour is not anything that is strange or new for the leaders of BJP belonging to any part of the country. The paradox lies in the fact that these are a bunch of leaders who largely remained inactive when it came to show similar kind of enthusiasm for the two seats of Jammu-Poonch and Doda Udhampur in particular. Sources said most of the leaders who are now trying to score point in the eyes of Arun Jaitly and other star campaigners from central leadership in Punjab, remained passive throughout the phases of campaigning
for the two J&K seats where party has huge stakes this time. It would not be exaggeration to say that some of these remained confined to rooms for days together for whatever reasons and did not play any role in the field when it was required most on both the seats, said the sources, something which has come to notice of the high command as well.
With polls having come to an end for both the Jammu seats, it is surprising that these leaders have suddenly turned active for Amritsar seat and the party candidate for it. Since Arun Jaitley is counted among top leaders of the party and has a sound standing in the political arena of the country, J&K leaders are leaving no effort in trying to keep him themselves in his good books, said the sources adding that since Jaitley is one considered to be powerful in all decision making matter particularly related to J&K, the leaders from the state are leaving no chance in get themselves fully registered in his eyes. Even more ironical is the fact that in Punjab, more so in Amritsar constituency, none of these leaders from J&K have any standing nor are known as big leaders in the area which which would have warranted their presence, sources said.
