JAMMU, July 16: With the holding of chess tournament, the annual inter-college competitions of University of Jammu, organized by the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, shall start here on the campus from August 18.
This was decided in a meeting of the Physical Training Instructors (PTIs) of the affiliated colleges held under the chairmanship of Director, Prof Dhian Singh Bhau today.
As per the tentative schedule came up for deliberations in the meeting, the first activity was to start from July 30. However, pre-occupation of students from certain colleges on these dates compelled the organizers to bring in certain modification in the already laid down fixture.
"The meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere wherein the tentative schedule prepared by the Directorate came up for discussion among the PTIs (Physical Directors) and other technical individuals. Considering the opinion of some of the college representatives a few changes were made," Director of the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, Prof Dhian Singh said.
The new semester system of examination, introduced this year, at the under graduate level was also discussed and finally a decision was taken to exclude the examination time in the sports calendar.
"As conveyed by the Controller of Examinations, we have taken due care of the examination dates. In view of the undergraduate exams, we have not scheduled any activity between November one and December seven," informed the Director.
The meeting was attended by around 40 representatives from the affiliated colleges attended today's meeting called by the Directorate.
Meanwhile, the Directorate has issued necessary instructions to the supervisory staff to speed up the ongoing repair work on the damaged grounds so as to ready them for the competitions ahead.
Pertinent to mention here that the hosting of Indian Science Congress by JU last year caused maximum damage to the sports infrastructure on the campus.
