Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 16: Just recall when the self-styled chairman of JKLF murderer Yasin Malik met Jamaat-ud-Dawa chief and mastermind and perpetrator of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack dreaded Hafiz Saeed in Islamabad in February, 2013. They shared the platform and mourned the execution of the Parliament House attacker Afzal Guru. Earlier, in February 2012, Congress Rajya Sabha MP and former Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar had appeared on a television talk show with Hafiz Saeed, who considers India his number one enemy and wants J&K to become part of Pakistan. Aiyar is a known supporter of regressive and anti-Jammu Kashmiri leadership.
On July 13, 2014, a photograph of Ved Pratap Vaidik with dreaded terrorist and killer Hafiz Saeed went viral on social networking sites. The picture shows Vaidik engrossed in a deep conversation with the 26/11 Mumbai attack mastermind. Ved Pratap Vaidik has confirmed the authenticity of the photograph. In fact, he said that he himself has released the picture. Vaidik has also admitted that he met Hafiz Saeed on July 2 in Lahore and had a one-on-one talk with him for more than an hour. He was on a 20-day-long trip to Pakistan. He claimed that he met with Saeed in the capacity of a journalist.
Not just this. He also justified his controversial meeting with Hafiz Saeed and said: "Many media outlet and Ministers from South Asian countries know me well. Everybody knows that only by dialogue we can sort out our issues. Violence and terror is not a solution. It is only through dialogue that we can resolve our issues". "Saeed had seen my interviews and had read my write ups," he also claimed. So much so that Vaidik painted a humanitarian picture of Saeed. "I spoke to many in Islamabad and Lahore, and I was told that Hafiz Saeed works for the education of destitute children," he told a private news channel in an interview.
Hafiz Saeed must be feeling highly satisfied as he found in the person of Vaidik a better public relation Indian. Hafiz Saeed not only masterminded the 26/11 deadly Mumbai terror attacks, which took away the lives of atleast 166 innocent people, but he was also behind the 2001 Parliament House attack, 2011 Mumbai train bombings and 2012 Army convey attacks in Kashmir. Hafiz Saeed continues to wage war against India by way of hate campaigns from inside Pakistan. He wants to separate Kashmir from the rest of India. Hafiz Saeed, the chief of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) and Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD), is a dreaded terrorist whose hands is soaked in bloods of thousands of innocent Indians. Ved Pratap Vaidik's meeting with Hafiz Saeed can't be considered as a journalistic endeavour.
Vaidik's outrageous dialogue with a non-State actor in Pakistan is a criminal act. It has the potential to weaken India's 26/11 case internationally and creating complications for the Union Government. It is no different from that between Yasin Malik and Saeed. It is a matter of national interest. The Government should come down hard on Ved Pratap Vaidik. He should be arrested for this irresponsible act. Action against him has become all the more necessary considering the fact that he on the Pakistani soil on June 29 advocated "azadi" for J&K and urged India and Pakistan to extend full support to the cause of the separatists in Kashmir. It is the likes of Vaidik, Prashant Bhushan, Arundhati Roy, Praful Bidwai, Radha Kumar, MM Ansari, Dilip Padgaonkar and so on who are causing more harm to the nation. India is not a banana republic. It is the fundamental duty of the Central Government to take a serious cognizance of what the likes of Vaidik have been doing. These mercenaries have to be isolated and brought to justice.
