Fake SIM racket busted in Rajouri, One arrested | 'Police to probe role of service providers and other concerns' | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 16: Police today busted a fake SIM racket with the arrest of one person who has sold thousands of simcards on fake documents in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir. Police is apprehending that the simcards may have been sold to some anti national elements also. This is second catch just within three months earlier police had arrested three persons involved in making fake voter ID cards and documents for activating the fake sim cards from Srinagar on May 18 Police spokesperson from Rajouri said, "On specific information, Police this morning raided a shop namely Waqar Cosmetic Store at SajThanamandi and arrested one Waqar Ahmed Bhatti, resident of SajThanamandi of Rajouri District. "During the search, number of SIMs, two stamps of J&K Bank, Behrote, details of SIM issued on fake Identity Proof, two Mobile phones and a Computer used for morphing documents were also seized on spot from the shop, he added. "During preliminary investigation, the accused disclosed that he has sold thousands of SIMs on fake ID proof on higher prices to unknown persons," the spokesman said. Sr Superintendent of Police (SSP) RajouriMubassirLatifi said, "The police have registered a case under relevant sections and further investigations are on to ascertain whether accused was selling these SIMs only for monitory benefits or if he has sold these to some anti-national or anti-social elements." He added that though the case is at preliminary stage but the role of Service Providers, the recipients of these SIM cards and their subsequent use would be probed thoroughly during the due course of investigation and the disclosures of the accused. Pertinent to mention Jammu and Kashmir, police during a raid in Srinagar have busted a racket which used to make fake voter ID cards and certificates, using these documents for activating the fake sim cards on May 18 this year. Police spokesperson had identified the accused as Shabir Ahmad Naikoo s/o Abdul RafiqNaikoo of Aawneera Shopian, Muzamil Ahmad s/o Mohd Khalil Wani of Banoor and Mohd Yaseen Reshi s/o Ali Mohammad Reshi of Gadoora. Police besides at least 100 sim cards, also have recovered fake bank passbooks, school certificates, computer, scanner and printer from the spot and a case against FIR number 108 u/s 420, 467, 468, 471 and 120/B was registered in this regard. |
