Samba, July 16 : Farmers of Samba are happy at the arrival of the monsoon as heavy rains lashed the region since the last two days. They had lost hope of a good crop due to the erratic phenomenon of monsoon but they heaved a sigh of relief when the region witnessed heavy rains that are the only source of irrigation. The experts say the south-west monsoon has delayed to most parts of the state, besides some parts of Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh. It will move to all parts of the state in the next 24 hours. The farmers of the Samba region say they had lost the opportunity of early sowing due to the delayed monsoon, resulting in damage to seeds. However, heavy rains during the past two days have rekindled their hopes of a good crop. "We believe that if the rains continue they will be able to revival for the lost time and receive a good yield of crops and vegetables," said Kartar Singh, a local farmer. The rains will have a good effect on the crop yielding, which was withering due to the delayed monsoon, he added. However, in Kandi village like Sumb, Goran, Papad, Samotha and Mohargarh of Samba, farmers are not happy with delayed monsoon as the suited period of the crop sowing had been much delayed which can affect to the final production of Kharif crops like Bajra, Maize, Rice and Barley. |
