Reasi, July 16: Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) on Wednesday launched a drive to crack down on Autorickshaws plying without electronic meters and fined 30 drivers for plying Rickshaw without meter. According to press release the ARTO had made it mandatory for Autorickshaws to ply by electronic meters. On the very first day of the drive, the ARTO flying squad, also comprising traffic police personnel, booked 30 autos. ARTO Reasi Rajesh Gupta visited many places such as railway station, bus stand, Banganga Road to supervise the drive. Apart from three squads that carried out checks in Katra town, officials also patrolled other parts of the town all through Wednesday. Gupta said his office is going to encourage commuters to register complaints against errant auto drivers. "All a commuter has to do is jot down the number of the vehicle, day, date, time and place and inform the ARTO office or Police by calling toll free 100. If requested, we will not reveal the passenger's identity," Gupta said. |
