Batwal Association hails GOI's action | | | JAMMU, July 16: The Jammu and Kashmir Batwal Welfare Association at its meeting held here under the chairmanship of Romesh Kumar Kaith, hailed action being taken by the Government of India to amend the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and expand its presumptions such as punishment for neglect of duties by public servants not belonging to SCs & STs. Association General Secretary R.L.Kaith mentioned to the community members that the amendments to Chapter II (Offences of Atrocities) are to include new definitions, repharase certain existing sections and expand the scope of presumptions. Objective of the amendments in the PoA Act is to deliver greater justice to SCs & STs which would be an enhanced deterrent to the offenders, Kaith further mentioned to them. The meeting urged the Prime Minister Narendra Mtodi to allow the Reservation in Promotion for Scheduled Castes Bill to be tabled in Lok Sabha for detailed deliberation and passing as the same stand already passed by the Rajya Sabha with full majority. The meeting also demanded setting up of 'Commission for SCs' in the State of Jammu and Kashmir. |
