TufailMattoo killing: HC grants CB 6 more weeks to complete probe | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, July 16: Jammu and Kashmir High Court has granted six more weeks to the Crime Branch (CB) of police to complete its investigating in the killing of TufailMattoo in June 2010. "In our constitutional scheme, it is the duty of the state to protect life and liberty of its citizens. When an offence is committed, it is the duty of the state to investigate the case fairly and expeditiously and ensure that the culprits are brought to justice," a single bench comprising Justice M H Attar said. "It has been stated more than once that until such time justice is meted out to the aggrieved persons, there will be no peace in the society. Meeting out justice to the aggrieve persons/citizens alone guarantees peace in the society," the court said and asked CB to speed up the investigation. "CB authorities are duly bound to conduct the investigation in fair and unbiased manner and ensure that culprits are brought to justice within the reasonable time". In February this year, the court had entrusted the investigation to CB after SIT of police failed to bring the investigation to its logical conclusion. Justice Virender Singh had directed the state Director General of Police to handover the investigation to CB. Tufail Ahmad Mattoo (17) was killed in a clash between stone pelting protesters and police at Ghani memorial stadium near RajouriKadal in old city on June 11, 2010. |
