GDC Kathua Principal welcomes new students

Kathua, Aug 27: Principal, GDC Kathua, Dr. B. L. Gupta today formally welcomed the new entrant students of BA/B.Sc./B.Com/BBA/BCA part -I to the temple of learning. In his address, he threw light on the rich academic legacy of the college which was established in 1961 and has been accredited NAAC 'A' Grade in 2013. He advised the students to maintain the discipline in the college and urged upon them to participate in various activities like, sports, NCC, NSS,Debates, Quiz, Symposia, seminar, cultural activities, curricular and extra- curricular activities in order to hone their personality development. He asked the teachers to inculcate the moral values in them so as to make them responsible citizen of state and country. Dr. Sangeeta, HOD Hindi and Prof. Sandeep Choudhary, Department of English also addressed the students and advised them to work hard in order to excel in studies and achieve their ambitions in life. The induction meet was attended by large number of students and the faculty members of the college. The whole programme was compared by Prof. Sumanesh Jasrotia, Staff secretary of the college.

ERE XI bags BGSBU T20 title

RAJOURI, Aug 27: Electrical and Renewable Energy Engineering (ERE) XI clinched the inter-department Twenty20 cricket tournament, organised by the Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) at Police Lines ground, here today.
In the final, ERE XI trounced Civil Engineers XI by 67 runs. Earlier, batting first, ERE XI set a target of 135 runs for the loss of nine wickets. Squlian, Mohd Azurul and Rahul were top scorers with 35, 31 and 25 runs respectively. From Civil Engineering, Rahat took three wickets. In reply, Civil Engineering XI surrendered before the opponent bowlers and bowled out for 68 runs in 14 overs. Muneeb Muneer bowled excellent spell taking away four wickets off as many deliveries and declared man of the match.
The final besides others was witnessed by Registrar and Dean of Students, Mohammad Rashid Chowdhary.
Meanwhile, the Directorate of Physical Education and Sports of BGSBU has shortlisted probable for the upcoming North Zone inter-university competition. The competition officiated by the technical penal including Vikramjit Singh, Vaid Parkash Sharma, Surinder Singh, Mohammad Abaass, Balvinder Singh, Zaheer Usman and Mushtaq Ahmed.

Akhnoor girls win volleyball title

JAMMU, Aug 27: Akhnoor zone won the volleyball title after they trounced Jammu zone in straight sets of 25-20, 25-10 in the final of inter-zonal under-19 girls competitions of Jammu district, organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) at Government Higher Secondary School, Domana, here.
Since only three teams turned up for the competition, Jammu zone qualified for the final outplaying Bhalwal zone 25-15, 25-10.
Meanwhile, in kabaddi competition, Akhnoor, Jammu, Satwari and RS Pura zones qualified for the semifinals.
In the quarterfinals, Akhnoor beat Bishnah while Jammu outplayed Marh zone 34-13. In other quarterfinals, Satwari zone trounced Bhalwal zone and R S Pura beat Khour zone.
