SHO among 3 cops suspended, Magisterial Inquiry initiated Alleged Custodial death in PS Khour 8/28/2014 12:11:28 AM Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 27: Three cops including SHO P/S Khour, SI Surinder Raina, Constable Vijay Kumar and Constable Sanjeev Kumar were placed under suspension besides departmental enquiry also stands initiated against them by Police after the case of alleged custodial death took place in Police Station Khour. The decision was taken by police after huge protest and demonstration by the people who blocked Akhnoor road which paralyzed the vehicular movement here today. The deceased has been identified as Harbans Lal alias Panchi Ram S/O Buti Ram R/O Calrian Gharota Tehsil and District Jammu. He was arrested during the intervening night of 26/27-08-2014 at about 0045 hours after being found involved in case FIR No. 51/2014 registered at P/S Khour U/S 302 RPC. He was booked following his role in murder of one Joginder Lal son of Shotu Ram of Camp Khour, Once his close friends and business partner who later became arch rival over business dispute following which Harbans allegedly stoned him to death. If the police statement is to be believed, the deceased Harbans Lal complained of chest pain, for which he was immediately shifted to Hospital at Pallanwalla for treatment where from he was further shifted to GMC Jammu for treatment and while being shifted to GMC Jammu, he breathed his last on the way due to multiple medical complications. Since the death of the deceased has taken place in Police custody and therefore to establish the truth & cause of death of deceased, a Magisterial Inquiry stands initiated Under Section 176 Cr.PC. Following the news of death of Harbans, relatives of the deceased gathered outside the mortuary of the GMC hospital and held protest demonstration raising anti police slogans. After receiving information, Jammu Uttam Chand, SP Rural Mohan Lal besides other police officers rushed to the spot and pacified the protestors assuring them of appropriate step against police officers if found guilty. Later, district administration ordered magisterial inquiry and got the postmortem of the deceased done by board of doctors.
