PDP pledges to continue relief measures
9/23/2014 11:01:21 PM
Jammu, Sept 23: Peoples Democratic Party workers and leaders today pledged to continue relief measures in view of the massive loss suffered by the people across the state.
The party workers from Jammu West Assembly segment met here today to discuss the situation arising out of the recent heavy rainfall and floods across the state. Among others the meeting was attended by Party's Jammu West Candidate Dhaman Bhasin, District President RK Bali, Former Minister and Spokesman Sardar Rangeel Singh and Party's Candidate for Kishtwar Firdous Tak.
Addressing the meeting Dhaman Bhasin said that state government failed to provide timely help to the people, which could have saved many lives and property across the state. "The irony is that even today the government machinery is completely defunct and the relief efforts are confined to announcements and visits of the public functionaries", he said adding that the relief and rehabilitation work should have been carried out in a coordinated manner.
Bhasin said that hundreds of houses, in the winter capital of state, have become unsafe for the inhabitants and it was responsibility of the government to ensure their safety. Till today, he said, the government was only assessing the loss suffered in the state infrastructure while the general masses, affected due to the floods, have been left at the mercy of God.
Sardar Rangeel Singh said that the divisional and district administrations in Jammu should carry out relief and rehabilitation measures on war footings. "The government cannot escape from its responsibility and relief measures have to be carried out without any prejudice", he said while referring to the reports that the ruling parties were trying to use the relief measures for their own political gains. RK Bali and Firdous Tak called on the party workers to carry on with their relief work across the state.
