ANANTNAG, Sept 23: Accusing the administration of closing down the relief distribution centre at Dak Banglow, Khanabal, the flood affected families of several areas said the relief material had been dumped to be given to the tainted politicians.
Affected families told Early Times that they found relief distribution center closed when they visited it for receiving the relief material sanctioned to them by the District Development Commissioner.
Safeera wife of Abdul Aziz a resident of Deva Colony told Early Times that on 13 September Deputy Commissioner Anantnag Bashir Ahmad Khan and Relief Commissioner signed her application and directed relief distribution center incharge to issue four blankets but so far she has received nothing.
"On 13th of September DC signed it and told Tehsildar to verify it who later sought report from the Patwari. He also gave his report on the same day but from that day I am roaming in this Dak Banglow but no one is paying heed to my grievances," said Safeera.
"This morning I again visited this center only to find it locked. Few policemen here today told me that relief is being distributed in DC office and I rushed to DC office but found nothing there. Now it's my third visit to this relief distribution center and you yourself can see it is locked," she said while tears started rolling down.
She has no money to visit this distribution center again and again. "What Government is doing is not-understandable to us if they announce and have the relief then they must distribute it," she said.
This reporter also found the relief distribution center locked in the afternoon and affected families enquiring about the relief distribution from the employees stationed in Government owned Dak Banglow.
Affected families alleged that the officials assigned to distribute the relief are illegally dumping the material and distributing it among the blue-eyed politicians who in turn distribute it among selected populations having affiliations to them.
Jeelani Hassan, a resident of Rajouri who was along with his 14 colleagues residing temporarily in Munghal area of Anantnag district is too awaiting help from the State Government.
"Since the water receded in the town who are visiting Government office and have completed all the documentary process needed for receiving the relief but yesterday they denied saying that we must get certificate from local auqaf committee which we have brought today but now they have closed it," said Jeelani.
Shabir Ahmad, a resident of Chinar Chow Danter said that they too have submitted a list of over 100 families to the administration which DC Anantnag accepted but so far no one has received any kind of help from the administration.
"They (Officers) are looting the relief material. In front of me an officer dumped three blankets in his locker," he alleged.
He said that relief was also distributed among the activists of a particular party who later distributed it among the flood affected families to depict that the relief material was of their party.
It is pertinent to mention here that a senior IAS officer objected the political interference into the relief distribution in the district.
Repeated attempts to contact the DC failed.
