PM's Kashmir visit on Diwali: Courtiers "misled" him for not visiting Jammu
10/23/2014 12:23:07 AM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 22: Jammu is again feeling ignored. While no one here is against his visit to Srinagar tomorrow to celebrate Diwali with the flood victims, majority people here feel that he should have included Jammu also in his scheduled visit.
"He has been misled by his courtiers and everyone here is unhappy with his decision not to visit the victims of floods and rains in Jammu," feel Jammuites.
While BJP leaders in the state are trying to take the political mileage of the Modi's visit to Srinagar on Diwali, they have failed to realise that Jammu is feeling ignored. The general feeling here is that he should have at least spent some time with the victims of rains and floods in Jammu too.
It is believed that some BJP leaders, especially those belonging to Jammu and Kashmir, have not given him the right advice on this issue. Modi's initiative to celebrate Diwali with the flood affected people in Srinagar is indeed a welcome step but they should have convinced him to visit Jammu region also.
In the devastating floods which hit Jammu and Kashmir in September last, maximum casualties took place in Jammu region. Undoubtedly, Srinagar city was badly affected by floods but devastation in Jammu region especially in Poonch, Rajouri and Udhampur, was unprecedented. The tragic road accident at Nowshera in Rajouri, which claimed lives of 60 members of a marriage party, was one of the shocking incidents during floods and incessant rains.
Sources in BJP said that Modi was very particular to celebrate Diwali with flood affected people of Jammu and Kashmir and share their grievances but he was not properly advised by local BJP leaders and some officials on the issue. These leaders and officials were inclined more towards Kashmir, the sources added.
Sources said Jammuites were equally concerned with the plight of flood-hit Srinagar people but at the same time they wanted that they should not be ignored. Instead of suggesting Modi to visit both Jammu and Srinagar on Diwali, these leaders and officers planned his tour to Srinagar city only, the sources added.
Not only locals in Jammu region, even some Congress leaders have started a whisper campaign against this high profile visit to rake up sentiments of the people of Jammu region. Congress leaders are asking the people that it is BJP which talks about Jammu region but after attaining power, this party has also started giving importance to Srinagar at the cost of Jammu.
