Early Times Report

BANDIPORA, Nov 12: In the first phase of assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, Gurez, Bandipora and Sonawari constituencies in north Kashmir are witnessing polls on November 25.
The data shows that the National Conference (NC) party retained the seats in early1957, 1962, 1977, 1983, 2002, and 2008. The present National Conference MLA Muhammad Akbar Lone after getting elected for two terms at a stretch is finding it hard this time to make it the Legislative Assembly.
According to some political analysts from north Kashmir, we see this election is a ray of hope for the people of Jammu and Kashmir, and if we talk of Bandipora district the traditional and erstwhile strong party National Conference (NC) is seen crumbling this time in Sonawari Constituency in North Kashmir's Bandipora district.
They believe that opposition Peoples Democratic Party has an edge this time while the party candidate Yasir Reshi, who stood third in 2002 Assembly elections has been leaving no stone unturned in luring the disgruntled workers of his adversary and if the supporters of Reshi are to be believed, PDP is all set to register a victory this time.
According to youth of the district that people should vote for those who has worked day and night for the betterment of the society, villages and for the area, we know this is all politics, they approached us in past also and the results are open before everyone, now the masses are much aware than anything, they know whom they have to cast their vote.
youth wished not to be named said that our own MLA conducted meetings with his workers and participated in wedding functions and took a taste of 'WAZWAN' only, as of now I must say that National Conference candidate Muhammad Akbar Lone is nowhere in race but there will be a neck to neck contest between PDP and Congress party.
Imtiyaz Parrey, the son of infamous renegade Kuka Parrey who is contesting on Congress ticket has emerged as the biggest contender as it is believed that he has played an important role during the recent floods, in which local youths also took part.
Parrey was in news on Aug 07, when he not only abused the lady doctor but also slapped her and threatened her of dire consequences. As she had refused to accompany him during late hours to treat her ailing mother, for which police station Sumbal had registered an FIR (83/2014) and a counter FIR (84/2014) in this regard. It is pertinent to mention here that Awami League candidate Muhammad Yousuf Parray alias Kukka Parrey defeated NC candidate Muhammad Akbar Lone in 1996 while in 2002 and 2008 the seat was retained by NC candidate Muhammad Akbar Lone. Sonawari Constituency comprises of two blocks Hajin and Sumbal. The majority of voters in Sumbal block are Shia who supports both PDP and National Conference. "The situation this time is quite different from 2008. Time has changed. Peoples Democratic Party has managed to get the support of the people.
Political analysts believe that PDP has strong support base in Asham, Nesbal, SadarkootBala, Shadipora, Dangarpora, Banyari, Turgam, Bon, Shahtulpore, Inderkot and other areas.
They believe that if Yasir Reshi PDP candidate was given a chance he will do wonders with his constituency, as he is a man of competency, dedicated and ready to redress the problems of the people of Sonawari constituency.
Analysts believe that Muhammad Akbar Lone tried hard to develop the constituency but a lot is yet to be done. The roads are in shambles. Electricity problem still persists and so is the unemployment problem," time will decide who will become the hero and zero from the constituency.
