'Don't vote for BJP, it will impose Hindu CM in JK'
Modi wave unnerves PDP legislator

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 12: Unnerved by the Modi wave and more and more people joining Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) in Kashmir the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) legislator has played a communal card by asking people not to vote for the party as it would impose a Hindu Chief Minister in Jammu and Kashmir.
The PDP legislator Peer Mansoor while addressing a rally at Shangus in south Kashmir said: "It will be a curse for the people of Kashmir if they vote for BJP. People should not vote for parties who plan to impose a Hindu Chief Minister in Jammu and Kashmir which would be a curse for the Kashmiris."
"Kashmir is conflict zone and also a sensitive place and if a Hindu Chief Minister is installed, it would have a bearing on its political landscape and other issues may crop up," Mansoor had said.
"There are certain parties which are trying to forge an alliance with communal elements and want to impose Hindu Chief Minister here. But let me make it clear that Jammu and Kashmir is a Muslim-majority state and can be ruled by a Muslim Chief Minister only," he added.
Soon after his statement came to light, the BJP appealed the Election Commission to take action against such communal propaganda. "We request the Election Commission to take strict action against such leaders who are playing communal card. This is not good for the integrity of the country," the BJP spokesperson Khalid Jehangir said.
Meanwhile, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti distanced herself from the statement saying that she had no clue that anyone had made such remarks. "I don't know who said that, I haven't heard it," she said.
Mansoor is a sitting MLA from Shangus town in the Anantnag district. The PDP has also fielded him for the upcoming Assembly elections in the state.
When former Congress Minister Sham Lal on August 26 had raised the pitch for a Hindu Chief Minister in the State all the parties, including PDP had castigated him. None of the regional parties have reacted to the remarks of the PDP legislator. It looks like all Kashmir based parties sail in the same boat and don't want Hindu to be the Chief Minister of the state.
Sham Lal Sharma while addressing a rally at Akhnoor had said: "If Ghani Khan Choudhary could become Chief Minister of Hindu majority West Bengal and Abdul RehmanAntuley of Maharashtra where Muslim population is merely two percent, why can't a Hindu lead the Jammu Kashmir and become a CM here."
It seems the PDP, which won all the three Parliamentary seats in Kashmir and its candidates secured a lead at 41 assembly segments, is losing the plot. "The PDP enjoys a clean image in Jammu region and it should not have any objection to the idea of having a Hindu Chief Minister. The party needs to set its house in order and show door to such elements who are hell bent upon ruining its image," an analyst opined.
He said that growing popularity of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Kashmir and his concern towards the people is making the leaders of regional parties feel insecure. "Times have changed people have grown up. They are looking for a leader who can mitigate their sufferings. They don't mind him being a Hindu or Muslim," the analyst added.
