Early Times Report

Rajouri, Nov 12: Local including flash flood victims across the Rajouri district in general and particularly from remote areas today alleged that the Consumer Affairs & Public Distribution (CA&PD) Department has failed to provide ration at fair price shops operational under Public Distribution System (PDS) in the district as well as at Rajouri city.
Local alleged that not only Above Poverty Line (APL)/ Below Poverty Line (BPL) ration is missing from these shops but the emergency ration meant for flash flood victims (who were promised for free ration for six months) are deprived from this facility.
They alleged due to callous approach of concerned department they are left on the 'Mercy of God' and are forced to purchase day to items from open market at the cost of their saving.
Majority of flash flood victims who alleged that prior to than many have fallen prey to mismanagement on part of the district administration for due identification and those who have been identified now have been ignored deliberately by the revenue officials while finalizing lists of the beneficiaries just to accommodate blue eyed people.
Aggrieved namely Mohd Din and MohdQasim of Kotranka, MohdIqbal and other from Manjakot, Razia and Khadim Hussain of Rajdhani -Thanamndi, Manoj and other from Sunderbani and Raj Kumar and others from Noushera in a chorus have alleged that the names of many actual flood victims are missing from the lists of the beneficiaries and names of non-beneficiaries appears in the lists. Sukhpal Singh, Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Kotranka -Rajouri admitted that many people whose names are not in the beneficiaries' lists for free ration, have been approaching the ration dealers and creating problems for them. " To ascertain who are the actual beneficiary , fresh list are being prepared and thus the free ration has been suspended temporarily, and the same will be made available to such people soon, he had stated some days ago.
Aggrieved from Kotranka and Budhal tehsils also have resented the state government's decision to provide ration under 2001 census which, according to them is not sufficient to meet the needs of a family for a week.
Meany aggrieved have alleged that the inhabitants of Rajouri city have been approaching the ration dealers daily but are getting only wordily assurances instead of regular supply of ration. Pertinent to mention that, Assistant Director, CA&PD when contacted by The Early Times a few days ago have told that he has been camping at Jammu to ensure the release of ration soon and added that Atta, Sugar, Wheat, Rice etc would be available at all these shops by Monday. "But he also failed to manage this as people came empty handed from Ration depots on Wednesday. Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Jatinder Singh when contacted briefly assured to look into the case by taking up the matter with AD, CA&PD Rajouri.
