Kulgam, Nov 12: Indiscriminate aerial firing allegedly by the Jammu and Kashmir Police after hearing mysterious sound resembling gun shots created panic in Yaripora area of Kulgam district and disrupted the rally that was supposed to be addressed by the JKPCC Chief Saif-u-Din Soz.Reports said that in the afternoon when congress workers started assembling in the bus stand, where Congress candidate for Homeshalibugh, Inayitullah Rather had organized an election rally mysterious sounds resembling gun shots created panic among the workers and ran away for the cover. They said that seconds after hearing sound resembling gunshots, police resorted to aerial firing which worsened the situation further."As soon as we heard firing we left our shops and ran away for cover." A shopkeeper told Early Times, adding they downed their shutters.Superintendent of Police in the district Mumtaz Ahmed told media that few people burst fire crackers in air during a marriage ceremony of the daughter of an advocate. "No firing took place and everything is normal in the area," he said. Meanwhile, suspected militants fired at the house of Bharatiya Janata Party candidate in Kulgam district; however candidate wasn't at his home Ghulam Hassan Zargar's name for the Kulgam seat was announced by the BJP on Tuesday. |
