Coalition partners at cross roads in Doda | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 12: Alliance partners--Congress and the National Conference in Jammu and Kashmir have been fighting a battle of survival in the erstwhile Doda district which goes to polls in the first phase of polling on November 25. Five out of six seats are held by the Congress party in the region while only one seat is held by the National Conference. For last three days Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has been camping in the area holding series of public meetings in support of party candidates in Ramban and Banihal. In both these places Congress candidates have strong voter base and NC is aiming to breach the wall of defence. Omar is aware of the fact that Congress party enjoys support base across the region and in comparison to any other leader GhulamNabi Azad is the tallest political figure. Keeping this in mind Omar has been smartly attacking the Congress party and exposing the real deeds of the party behind the close door meetings. On Wednesday while addressing election meetings in Ramban Omar said, "When it comes to taking credit for the welfare schemes and other developmental projects the Congress party leaders are very efficient but when it comes to taking responsibility of floods in both regions of the state they simply blame me". Raising question over the intentions of the Congress leaders Omar also claimed that when someone recently asked PCC Chief Prof SaifUd Din Soz that the charge of PHE, Irrigation and Flood control department was with the congress Minister he should also take the responsibility for failing to prevent the devastated floods. In response, according to Omar Abdullah, the congress leader claimed to have responded that the congress ministers were working on the directions of the Chief Minister. Targeting the congress party Omar said by this logic he should also be given credit for the good works done by the alliance govt. But in contrast the congress leaders are busy doing propaganda. Reality is i had to struggle before creating administrative units, he added. On the other hand congress stalwart, leading the campaign on behalf of the party is not resting either. Azad is attacking the mis governance of the Omar led govt also attacked the Congress party after Azad targeted the state govt over ignoring the development of back ward areas of Gurez, Tanghdhar, Lolab and Uri.Responding to the barb Omar hit back reminding the congress leaders when they were campaigning unitedly for Rahul Gandhi and Congress candidates during Parliamentary polls the National Conference was alright and now when they are contesting against each other they are finding faults with the working of the govt. "Instead of finding faults with others you (Congress leaders) should scan your own functioning," Omar said. "Tell me if you see damage in J&K due to NC what happened to you in rest of the country. It was not National Conference there," Omar said.Taking a dig at Congress leaders, Omar said, "You cannot hunt with hound and run with hare." He said when NC was campaigning for Congress candidates in Parliament elections, Congress saw everything good in it, now when the two parties were fighting elections separately, it is finding all faults in NC. |
