SRINAGAR, Nov 21: It needed six years of marriage for the two parties to realize that they are not really on the same political page, now as the elections are near National Conference and Congress leaders have started mudslinging and blaming each other for various failures to entice voters. The alliance between NC and Congress started decaying soon after a humiliating defeat for both the parties in parliamentary elections. Since then the parties have been blaming each other for taking the credentials of different developmental works in governance. While the National Conference leadership in Kashmir Valley believes that its future lies in its pro-valley credentials which got diluted because of the alliance with the Congress.
The Congress on the other hand believes that the votes in parliamentary elections could not be transferred to National Conference candidates because of hatred against this party on the ground."There was no PDP wave in Kashmir but surely a deep hatred against National Conference that has given PDP three seats," said Prof Saif-u-Din Soz, president Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) while taking to reporters here. While Omar led NC has been taking all the credit of establishing administrative units in the state, the Congress has equally reacted to it while describing the historic move as a result of efforts of Congress. On Thursday Omar addressed a public meeting in Beerwah and while hitting out at the 'hypocrisy' of the Congress, Omar said that party was busy trying to own up the achievements of the NC led Government while they are deflecting all the failures of their leaders and ministers.
"If Congress wants to blame NC for the points of criticism in the historic six year term of good governance and transparency, then all the good work done is also solely attributable to us. It is NC that made thousands of kilometers of new roads, built hundreds of new bridges and created the new administrative units on the basis of our hard-work, political will and conviction. Congress cannot have the cake and eat it too," Omar said in Beerwah. Surprisingly there have been several other issues that have become the centre of attention between the coalition partners to blame each other, such as enhancement of retirement age, establishment of Panchayats on which both these parties have been exchanging heat arguments. As both NC and Congress have been leveling accusations against each other, political analysts have called the process as abandoning of the sinking ship of mis-governance."There has been complete mis-governance during NC-Congress tenure, now they malice each other's image just to gain public sympathy. Both these parties are contesting polls independently, to score more votes; it is obvious that they will expose each other, both these parties will use each other's failures to woo voters," said GhulamNabiShehriyaar, a political analyst. There is a growing opinion that the parting of ways with the National Conference can also come handy for the Congress if it has to forge a future alliance with the PDP.
