Early Times Report

Jammu, Nov 21: The tall claims of the Jammu University authorities for its foolproof security arrangements to avoid any untoward incidents fell flat when a group of inebriated students of Law Department beat a boy few days back in the hostel, for disobeying their dictates, but no security personal or concerned official intervened to avert the incident. Moreover, such incidents of students' clashes in Jammu University hostels have become routine affair.
Sources told Early Times that few days back some students of Law Department, who were under the influence of alcohol, beat and harassed, a boy of the same department in Vivekananda Hotel late night. "There was huge pandemonium in hostel when this incident took place but shockingly no official or so called security personal reached the spot to diffuse the situation as a result of which youth was beaten ruthlessly by the group of inebriated students", the alleged.
They further said, accusing JU administration of its false claim of security in the hostel for the safety of the students, despite knowing the sensitivity of the issue which could have taken more serious turn at the moment but concerned officials including warden remained elusive.
"However they took the cognizance of the matter only the next day in the morning, when victim lodged complaint with Povost Hostel Jasbir Singh," they said further adding that more than four fierce fights in the hostel had taken place in the different hostels of the Jammu University this year but JU administration has tried to cover up the incidents rather than take serious and decisive action against the defaulters.
Provost Hostel JU, Jasbir Singh, when contacted, termed the incident trifle one and said "We sorted out the issue as soon as it came into our knowledge, as far as the security of the hostels is concerned, we have full-fledged security arrangements in the hostel".
