Decisive victory in 4th phase to determine who forms next Govt in J&K | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Dec 11: The most crucial phase of State assembly elections is definitely the fourth phase in which 18 constituencies will be voting to elect representatives for the new assembly in Jammu and Kashmir on December 14. For the NC and its rival, the PDP the fourth phase is a do or die situation. In South Kashmir Anantnag district the PDP has to ensure it does not lose any of the four seats of Anantnag, Shangus, Pahalgam anted Bijbehara while at the same time it will have to push hard to dislodge the Congress in Kokernag and Dooru constituencies. In Shopian district both Wachi and Shopian seats are with the PDP and reports indicate the NC is this time going to give a tough fight to the PDP in retaining both these seats. In the Srinagar district, the NC has all the eight seats of AmiraKadal, Sonwar, HabbaKadal, Batmaloo, Eidgah, Zadibal, Khanyar and Hazratbal. Interestingly, the PDP this time poses a serious challenge to the NC in retaining these eight assembly seats those gave NC the huge edge it got in 2008 to form the government in the state. Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah is contestng the polls from Sonwar for the first time. Omar is also a voter in Sonwar but that does not in any manner indicate his victory from Sonwar could be a foregone conclusion. PDP's Mohd. Ashraf Mir poses a serious threat to Omar in this constituency. It is also believed in the constituency that Omar does not have an edge over his rival, at least not till date. Winning Sonwar is politically very crucial for Omar although he is also fighting from Beerwah constituency of Budgam district polling for which has already ended with the successful completion of the third phase. For NC General secretary and senior leader, Ali Mohammad Sagar who is seeking re-election from Khanyar for the fourth time, things are not as smooth as they had been in the past three elections. PDP's KhurshidAlam is fighting Sagar from this constituency and people generally believe the toughest fight in the 8 assembly seats of Srinagar district is going to be tougher in Khanyar than anywhere else in the district. What is true of Sagar is also true of NasirAslamWani of the NC who is pitched against AltafBukhari of the PDP in AmiraKadal constituency. The good work Bukhari did during the September floods is believed to come handy for the PDP candidate in AmiraKadal. Another senior leader of the NC and speaker of the state assembly Mubarak Gul is fighting to retain his Eidgah seat where he is believed to be facing tough competition from the PDP. In a nutshell, the party that retains all of its seats and at the same time is able to disloge its rivals from all or half of the seats such a party has in the present assembly will form the next government in Jammu and Kashmir. |
