Kishtwar, Dec 11: A 7-member International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) team visited the district jail here today and interacted with the inmates.The team comprised of Kristen Meesnaam of Germany, David Tulitdrinate of Switzerland, Bruce John Graham of UK, Devos Claire of France, Mark Thomlinson of UK, Danielie Hannon of Australia and HadoruLivia of Switzerland. They inspected the jail and interacted with the inmates, official sources said.Sources said the team visited the jail to look into problems of the inmates as per an agreement between Government of India and International human rights community.It is pertinent to mention that a couple of years ago ICRC head in India, Alex Habib had confirmed by him in an interview with media persons in New Delhi that the conditions of jails and jail inmates had improved for the past few years. In past, ICRC had raised concern over the lodging of number of inmates in jails beyond capacity. |
