Kolkata, Feb 15: AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal’s astounding comeback in the Delhi Assembly polls is inspiring the scholars of IIT-Kharagpur, the place the Delhi Chief Minister had studied, to take up politics as a career.
“Making a career in politics is likely one of the choices earlier than me now after graduating from IIT. Kejriwal has proved that even these from IIT and engineering background may be profitable in politics,” Atal Ashutosh Agarwal, a 3rd yr scholar of mechanical engineering of IIT-Kharagpur, told.
Originally from Delhi, politics caught his fancy after he noticed the IIT alumni waging a warfare towards corruption alongside together with his one-time mentor, social activist Anna Hazare.
“Kejriwal has made it simpler for us to enter politics. He has proven us the trail and is an inspiration,” stated Agarwal, who has already joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
Lokesh Deshmukh, a second-yr geophysics scholar who helped AAP perform on-line and telephone campaigning throughout Delhi polls, stated the variety of these from the campus of the highest engineering institute becoming a member of as volunteers of the party was growing.
“It is all due to Kejriwal as everybody on the campus has a mushy nook for him. He is one among us,” he stated.
On Facebook, a whole lot of younger IITians come collectively on the group web page ‘AAP IIT Kharagpur’ to debate political developments and points associated to the party. The web page has already crossed over P,000 ‘likes’.
Politics, in any other case, is taboo on the IIT campus as political actions aren’t permitted inside.
Kejriwal had studied mechanical engineering at Kharagpur from 1985. The Nehru Hall hostel the place Kejriwal stayed for 5 years is understood for its social and cultural actions.
“He was a daily at Hindi dramatics society meets and was lively in occasions associated to public talking, debating, and so forth. That gave him a superb publicity which helps him now in the political world,” Agarwal stated, including that the IIT tradition makes them transcend the world of textbooks and lecture rooms.
