Pandits celebrate 26th Samohik Shivratri in exile

JAMMU, Feb 15: Celebrating their 26th Shivratri in exile since their mass exodus in 1989, Kashmiri Pandits today organized a function at Sanjeevani Sharda Kendra in connection with Samohik Shivratri.
Hundreds of devotees drawn from different parts of Jammu participated in the function which started early in the morning.
The function was Presided over by noted Jyotish Pt. Omkar Nath Shastri and Ex Chancellor of Jagat Guru Ramananda Charya University, Jaipur Dr Ramanujan Devnathan was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Radheydas Ji of Shri Govind Ji Godiya Matth was the guest of honour.
On the Occasion chief guest Dr. Ramanujan spoke on the Significance of Shivratri .
He said that Shivratri Festival is the manifestation of social & cultural ethos of India. Representing 'Shiv Parivar 'as the symbol of ' unity in diversity, he said this age old tradition is as relevant today as it was in ancient times. He laid emphasis upon self introspection and educated messes about importance of Vedas.
Noted social worker of Godimatth Sh Radheydasji said Shivratri is the universal festival. It represents family affection , social unity, cultural upliftment and mental elevation. He said that the essence of Shivratri should be passed on to the young generation to make them feel universal oneness.
Noted Sanskrit scholar Jotshi Omkar Nath Shashtri spoke in detail on the Hindu Sanskriti and Sanskars. He said it is the 'Sanskars 'that make a real man .Giving significance of Shivratrai he said that Shivratri represents thousands of years of culture continuity of Hindus of Kashmir. He raised some inspirational question for safe guarding Kashmir culture in present times.
Noted singer S L Sidha enthralled the audience with his melodious Shiv Bhajans.
A photo exihibition regarding different aspects of 'Sun God' was represented by B B Sher and H K Sidha. The exhibition was highly praised by the audience.
Earllier the function started with welcome address by Prof. T N Shalla and T N Pandita Chairman of Kendra presented the vote of thanks.
The programme was compared by Dr. M.K.Bharat and the prassad was served after conclusion of the function.
It may be recalled that after the mass exodus in 1989 the Kashmiri Pandits started celebrating the Samohik Shivratri to keep their rituals and traditions alive.
