8816 hectares catchment area of BHEP treated

JAMMU, Mar 26: The Minister for Social Welfare and Forests, Bali Bhagat informed the House that study has not been conducted by the department to establish that the villages Seetli, Kolthi, Kolthun, Assar,Korapani, Trungal and Khasa from Chanderkote up to Pul-Doda are under the threat of land sinking due to construction of water reservoir of Bhagliar Hydro Electric Project (BHEP).
Minister was replying to a calling attention of Sham Lal Bhagat here in the House today
Minister said that the department has treated 8816 hectares of the catchment area of the reservoir against the target of 11403 hectares by way of vegetative and minor engineering works in phase Ist. He said in Phase-II, 1980 hectares are currently under way against the target of 5500 hectares of land and the programme is funded by State Power Development Corporation. He said Social Forestry Department has also started some works for the purpose.
