Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 26: While Omar government harped upon assigning top priority to the education sector in the state, Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Topneel, Doda where one contractual teacher of English taught more than 300 students of 12th standard in one classroom exposed its tall claims. Sources informed Early Times that the Higher Secondary School Topneel of district Doda has only one contractual English teacher for more than 300 students in one class. English subject is not an isolated case which has only one contractual teacher, other subjects of Science stream including Physics, Chemistry and Biology also have one contractual teacher in each. "It is very interesting that these teachers not only teach 12th standard students but also teach the 11th standard", sources said, adding that they didn't understand how it is possible for one teacher to teach hundreds of students in one class.Rahul, a 12th standard student of the School said that in the class of 300 students dumped in one classroom, it was very difficult even to hear out the teacher.
"Many a times the students who are interested in studies had clashed for a seat in the front of row but", said Rayaz another student of 11th standard. Teachers confessed that while they managed to take classes somehow, it was difficult to conduct any tests to make assessments.
Mohmmad Yaqoof, a resident of Topneel criticized former Education Minister, who was allegedly more interested in shifting teachers, masters from one place to another and had failed to provide teachers in these rural areas.
When contacted Director School Education, Simrandeep Singh said that he was thankful for the information and assured that he would discuss the issue with concerned Chief Education Officer and would depute masters, teachers to the school. "In future the priority will be given to the rural schools and the priority will be given to the number of students in schools rather than sanctioned posts", he said.
