Star Club wins Civil- Military Volleyball C'ship at Surankote

Surankote, Apr 25 : The result of hard work, perseverance and determination has always been sweet and so is the case with the Civil - Military volleyball championship, the first of its kind, organized by Rashtriya Rifles under Romeo Force at ALG Surankote. Around 16 teams comprising of club teams, Teh teams, J&K Police and Rashtriya Rifles battalions competed for the title from 15 Apr to 24 Apr 15, but it was the team of Star club, which came out victorious. The event saw an overwhelming response in which teams of Rashtriya Rifles, J&K Police and Civil teams from Poonch, Mendhar, Mandi and Surankote participated in the keenly contested tournament. After nail biting semifinal matches, the teams of Star Club Surankote and Rashtriya Rifles battalion reached the finals. The grand finale match played on 24th April, was witnessed by dignitaries from Army, J&K Police, Civil adm and the people of Surankote Tehsil.
Both the teams exhibited determination, competitive spirit and the will to win.
The uniqueness of the event lay in the fact that people of Surankote cheered for both the participating teams.The Chief Guest General Officer Commanding, Romeo Force, Maj Gen AK Sanyal, gave away the trophy and prizes to the winner and runner up teams as well as consolation prizes to all the participating teams of the tournament.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief guest said that the events such as this, shows the humane face of security forces and goes a long way in winning the hearts and minds of locals population especially the younger generation. The enthusiasm shown by the local and loud cheers of spectators was testimony to that sense of secureness that has returned to this beautiful valley. The tournament concluded with interaction of General Officer Commanding, Romeo Force and Commander Sector Rashtriya Rifles with prominent personalities and people of Surankote.
