Mathematics, Physical Education enter semis of JU Cricket

JAMMU, Apr 25 : Department of Mathematics and Department of Physical Education today reached the semifinals stages of the inter-department cricket tournament of University of Jammu (JU), organised by Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, on the campus ground, here.
In the quarterfinals, played today, Department of Mathematics outplayed Department of Commerce by a comfortable margin of 41 runs.
Batting first, Mathematics set a target of 172 runs for seven wickets. Sultan remained top scorer with 41-ball 56 (8x4, 1x6) runs while Manoj and Arun contributed 36 and 21 runs respectively. Sahil took most of the three wickets while Mehmood secured one.
In reply, Commerce could not maintain the required run rate and exhausted 20 overs for 130 runs losing nine wickets. Gulzar Singh made highest 38 runs, followed byFafat, who added 31. Manish and Shabir contributed 13 and 11 runs respectively. From Mathematics, Ajay and Rahul took two wickets each.
In other quarterfinal of the day, Department of Physical Education registered seven wickets win against Department of Computer Sciences (MCA) to qualify for the last four stages of the competition.
Earlier, MCA won the toss and decided to bat.
The whole side bowled out for 64 runs in 14.1 overs. Saqib and Murtaza were only batsmen who scored in double figure with 18 and 10 runs in their respective accounts. From Physical Education, Mehmood bowled deadly spell taking away four wickets for 10 runs in four overs. Vinay took two wickets.
Later, Physical Education overhauled the opponent total making 64 runs in 12.1 overs . Rahul Sharma made unbeaten 25 runs, followed by Vinay, who added 10 runs. Atul and Kaushal took two and one wicket respectively from MCA.
Jagtar Singh, Raj Kumar Bakshi, Pankaj Sasun and Opinder Singh were umpires in today's quarterfinals while Satpal maintained the score.
