Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, Apr 25: Continuing with the Initiative for ensuring quality education and better learning capabilities of Government school students , the Bandipora district administration has now devised a programme to provide training iN English language to more than 500 ReTs of the district. The training will focus on pronunciation , phonetics and grammar .
Details available with Early Times reveal that District Administration has roped all the language experts from various parts of state and outside state for imparting the training from April 29th. The Deputy Commissioner including his team of around a dozen district officers and two Prime Minister's Rural Development fellows during their school visits have found that Government teachers especially the ReT's lack basic knowledge of English vis vis pronunciation and grammar.
"We have been visiting Government primary and middle schools in Bandipora from the last more than three weeks now and it has been observed by us during our school visits that students of class 7th or
8th can't even read the first chapter of their text books. It was also observed that teachers also commit lots of grammatical and pronunciation mistakes while teaching the students.
This is why we felt a need to train the teachers professionally in addition to giving them on-spot assignments for ensuring better learning capabilities of the students," said Owais Mushtaq a young KAS officer who is presently posted as Deputy Registrar Cooperative Societies Bandipora and one of the members of Educational Observers constituted under the supervision of DC Bandipora.
A leading mental Arithmetic training organization ALOHA has also conducted a three day training course to at least 70 Middle school teachers from Bandipora and the feedback from teachers has been very encouraging. A teacher from Kaloosa zone Fayaz Ahmad said that he has first time learned the art of teaching mathematics to primary and middle students. He lauded the trainers for providing them such a fruitful training about mathematics.
Pertinently the Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Dr Shah Faesal has formulated a team of around thirteen officers - "Educational Observers" and their job is to visit Government run schools particularly Primary and Middle schools located in the territorial jurisdiction of Bandipora district . Each group is lead by a team of two officers (educational observers) and they give the task to Government teachers to ensure that all the students learn basis subtraction , multiplication , division , names of ten fruits , vegetables , seasons etc. In additional to it observers impress upon the teachers that all the students should at least read their text books.
"The educational observers revisited some schools after assigning the work to teachers, the results were beyond our imagination," said Vibhav Jindal PM's Rural Development fellow who is attached with DC Bandipora from the last almost one year now.
