Jammu, May 1 : The newly built block of Alexander Memorial School,Eidgah, Residency Road, Jammu was inaugurated by the Most Rev. PK Samantaroy, Moderator CNI and Bishop of the Diocese of Amritsar. According to press release, the new block is christened as 'Bishop Aziz William Block' and greeting of cheer for the Chief Guest by young Alexians of classes 3rd, 4th, 5th with pompoms and ribbon sticks was worth watching. The Rt. Rev. Aziz William in whose memory the block is named was the first Indian Principal of the Alexander Memorial School, Jammu besides being the first Indian Missionary of the Scottish Church in Jammu. He was the Principal of the School for about 47 years from 1942 to 1989 and played a pivotal role in the spread of education here. On the occasion, MLC Ashok Khajuria, MLA (East) Rajesh Gupta, MM Khajuria Retd. DGP, Goverdhan Singh Jamwal, D. Joseph, RM Mengi, Fr. Varkey and many heads of the institutes graced the occasion. The function was also graced by many prominent Church leaders, clergy and administrators from Protestant Catholic and other Churches. Large gathering of ex-students could also be seen. The new building brings hope and a vision of upgradation of school into a Senior Secondary School. Besides inaugurating the new block Most Rev. PK Samantaroy, Moderator CNI, Jammu praised the role of Mrs. Esther William, Principal of the school for her 25 years of dedicated work for upliftment of the school. The choir presentation by school students was enthralling. |
