3 months on, Govt fails to appoint Custodian General | | | Bivek Mathur Early Times Report
Jammu, June 18: Notwithstanding the tall claims of better governance, Jammu and Kashmir government has so far failed to appoint Custodian General, Jammu and Kashmir. The post is lying vacant for the last over 3 months. As per sources, Abdul Majid Mir, former Custodian General whose name once surfaced in vigilance for misappropriation of funds when he was Director CAPD, Kashmir has retired in March 2015 and till then the chair of the Custodian General is lying vacant due to reasons best known to the administration. "Public visiting the office of Custodian General is facing lots of difficulties pertaining to release of encroached evacuee properties, allotments of lands, use of evacuee lands, leasing of lands, demarcation of lands but sans Custodian General, their problems are amassing day by day. Files related to various public works are gathering dust in the office of Custodian General for the last three months as signature of the Custodian General are requisite for completing the formalities", sources said. "Until government fills up the coveted post of Custodian General, the powers should rest upon the Custodian Evacuee property, Jammu and Kashmir so that public works will not linger on", suggested a revenue official wishing anonymity. If sources are to be believed, there is a controversy over the appointment of Custodian General between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Bhartiya Janta Party leadership as both want to appoint their favorite candidates on the coveted post. Minister of State (MoS) for Public Works (R&B) and Revenue, Sunil Sharma, when contacted by Early Times over the issue, however denied any controversy and assured that the matter of appointment of the Custodian General, Jammu and Kashmir is under active consideration of the coalition government and a decision in this context will be made very soon. |
