Akshay Azad Early Times Report JAMMU, June 18: A senior professor from Jammu University's Department of Commerce has decided to go for one-year sabbatical leave, reportedly after differences with Vice-Chancellor Prof. RD Sharma. Dr. Desh Bandu Gupta, professor and Director of Colleges Development Council (CDC) is going on sabbatical leave for one year beginning July 2, sources told Early Times. A JU university professor is not eligible for study leave and shall be eligible for grant of sabbatical leave for one year only at the end of continuous service in the professor's grade. The sabbatical leave is given for undertaking study, research and writing purposes within the country or abroad. While talking to Early Times Dr. Gupta admitted that he had applied for sabbatical leave and that it had been approved by the varsity authorities. He said he had availed the leave for "study purpose and nothing else." But if the sources are to be believed, Dr Gupta's differences with the VC Prof Sharma had prompted him to apply for one-year leave. "Both Gupta and Sharma belong to the varsity's Commerce department and were among the shortlisted candidates for the post of VC," the sources said. After Prof Sharma became VC, sources said, many in the campus had believed that he would sideline Prof Gupta by removing him from the post of Director CDC. "So anticipating problems for himself, Prof. Gupta has opted for sabbatical leave," said the sources. |
