Jammu, June 18: Asserting that people usually avoid the abnormal beating of heart, Dr T S Kler Executive Director (Cardiac Sciences), HOD Cardiology, Director Electrophysiology at Fortis Escorts Heart New Delhi today said that the people are not much aware in India that there is a heart-related disorder called as 'Arrhythmia.' "The disorder comes to light when doctors are checking a patient for something else. So the diagnosis happens more often when the major damage has already been done," said Dr Kler while addressing media persons here today during his visit to SDDM Hospital, Channi Himmat,Jammu Citing a case, he said, "Kartik Aggarwal's heartbeat started pacing after he rushed to catch his nine o'clock Bandra-bound train. He, however, found something amiss when his heart went on to beat at abnormal pace throughout the day which was atypical case, Dr Kler said and added, "in patients of Arrhythmia, the heart rate may be abnormally slow or abnormally fast or the heart's rhythm may become abnormally irregular. He said that slow heart beat (usually rates may be abnormally slow or below 50 beats per minute) are known as Bradycardia, while abnormally fast heart rates (usually 150 or more beats per minute) are known as Tachycardia." Dr Kler currently working as Executive Director (Cardiac Sciences), HOD Cardiology, Director Electrophysiology at Fortis Escorts Heart Institute & Research Centre, New Delhi and also a Faculty member SDDM Hospital, Channi Himmat, Jammu said, "When a person is resting, the body's blood and oxygen needs are less. In this condition, the heart beats between 60 to 80 times every minute and when a person indulges in some moderate physical activity, the SA node increases the heart rate to about 100 beats per minute." Giving precautionary words, Dr Kler said that anything below 50 beats a minute or above 150 beats a minute should not be ignored and a doctor should be visited without any delay. |
