Early Times Report

Jammu, July 22: A government school teacher, a confidant of former J&K Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, has managed to convert the title of a school land at Bhaderwah in his favour with the help of some officials of the Revenue Department and sell it later.
Calling himself president of a non-recognized body-United Teachers Federation District Doda-the master in league with officers of the Education Department sold the land belonging to Government Primary School (Girls) at Qilla Mohalla, Bhaderwah against a whopping cost, said local residents.
They said this illegal deal of the master, who is presently head of Government High School Nichla Thara, Bhaderwah, was brought into the notice of the top officials of Education Department time and again but to no avail.
"The kuccha house, which included in the land deal, is at the moment used as a school, though it is hygienically unfit besides being unsafe," the residents said.
The people also allege that the teacher, using the cover of his so-called teachers' organization and name of Azad family, has been pressurising the Education Department for effecting transfers of teachers and also to settle his scores with different people.
"The master has been harassing people by submitting false and fabricated complaints to the government functionaries in which he frequently uses defamatory and derogative remarks," the people said.
"I am a senior teacher having unblemished track record, but I felt highly depressed after a frivolous complaint was lodged by the master against me," said a teacher of Mohalla Qilla, seeking anonymity.
He said, "Some officials in the Education Department in Doda district are also allegedly giving undue favours to the master in question and save him from disciplinary action."
Another local resident, Mohammad Asgar, said: "My land has been encroached upon by a woman who belongs to a family that is non-resident and happens to be the sister of the master and has been threatening me and my family."
Despite repeated attempts from Early Times, no senior official of the Education Department was available for comment.
