Mir shifts blames on Jammu based Cong leaders for debacle in Assembly elections | | | Early Times Report Jammu, July 22: After throwing away three veteran Congress leaders from the party, Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief Ghulam Ahmed Mir today targeted Jammu based Congress leaders for their failure to retain their assembly seats. Ironically Mir himself lost his Doru Assembly seat but he hit back at Jammu based leaders only to tighten his grip on the party. According to a Kashmir based news agency, Mir was interacting with media persons during Eid Milan party at Srinagar. He admitted that it was the poor performance of the Congress leaders in State especially in Jammu, that enabled BJP to win as many seats as possible in last year's Assembly elections. "The 'power' had corrupted some of the Congress leaders absolutely and they failed to do good for the people, as a result Congress suffered heavily. Our leaders are not going to repeat the same mistakes and we have decided to put our best to work in the interest of common people," he said. Ironically Mir has targeted Jammu based Congress leaders but he failed to clarify why Kashmir based Congress stalwarts badly lost assembly elections. All the senior Kashmir based Congress leaders had lost assembly elections. In Jammu region there was a strong Modi wave but in Kashmir it was not so even then Congress stalwarts had badly lost. Even from Doru, which was considered as strong hold of Mir, the PCC chief himself had lost the elections. Charges of corruption were not only levelled against Jammu based Congress leaders but some of the Valley based party leaders also faced similar charges. Kashmir based Congress leaders lost elections due to charges of corruptions but in Jammu there was strong Modi wave. |
