Forest Deptt seizes illegal forest produce

JAMMU, July 22- After receiving specific information regarding illegal trading of Minor Forest produce, a team of Forest Officials headed by Varinder Singh Range Officer, Jammu, Kailash Choudhary, Block Officer Paloura and Forest staff under the direct supervision of Dr. V.S. Senthil Kumar Divisional Forest Officer Jammu had conducted a raid in the premises of M/S Ved Parkash and Brothers (Amit Trading) located at Kanak Mandi Jammu.
During the raid huge quantity of Forest Produce were seized namely Nag Chatri (Trillium govanianum) 6 kg, Guchi (Morchella esculenta) 13 kg, Banfasha (Viola odorata) 311 kg, Kaker Singhi 4.63 kg and other forest produces 12.17 kg.
As per DFO Jammu this is for the first time that Forest Department had conducted a search operation in the shop located in Kanak Mandi. It is a major deterrent to the traders who are involved in illegally trading of Forest Produce. He appealed the traders in General to refrain from illegal trading of Forest Produce.
The operation was successful where a total of 346 kg of MFP has been seized by the Forest Staff. The Estimated value of the seized forest produce is approximately Rs. 6 lakh. He also mentioned that case has been registered for violation of Section 6, 15, 16, 36A and 39 of J&K Forest Act. The range officer Jammu is entrusted for further investigation of this case. The case has been submitted to the Authorized Officer (DFO Jammu) under section 26 of the J&K Forest Act for initiating confiscation proceedings. The seized forest produce are mostly extracted illegally from forest areas of higher reaches of Chenab Valley and Rajouri Poonch areas. Most of them are being illegally transported to outside the State. B. M. Sharma Conservator of Forest, East Circle, Jammu has appreciated the efforts made by the Forest team for successful seizure of Forest Produce.
