PDP on the offensive, BJP neither here nor there
Promoting Pakistani cause

Early Times Report
jammu, Aug 26: The PDP, which formed coalition Government with the BJP in the State some six months ago after making its coalition partner to adopt its political agenda, continues to be on the offensive. It has never missed an opportunity to implement its agenda or its 2014 election manifesto, also called "An Aspirational Agenda". That it was committed to the promises it made to the people of Kashmir during the election campaign as well as in its election manifesto, became clear on day one, when it gave credit to Pakistan and separatists in this and other parts of the State for the successful conduct of the Assembly elections in the State. Thereafter, its leaders and spokespersons made several statements indicating their commitment to the party's agenda and its stand on Pakistan and Hurriyat. Why not? After all, the PDP sought and got mandate on a particular agenda. And it cannot be blamed for sticking to its agenda.
On Tuesday, the PDP also made it loud and clear that it would not deviate from its agenda even slightly and that it would make all efforts to persuade New Delhi to re-start dialogue process with Pakistan and would appreciate New Delhi if it adopted a positive attitude towards Hurriyat leaders. It said that it was the fundamental right of the Hurriyat leaders to express their views on Jammu & Kashmir and engage with any person in and outside India. In fact, it gave the traitors a license. The PDP spokesperson and former NC MP Mehboob Beg not only declared that it would make all-out effort to make the BJP-led NDA Government to re-start dialogue with Pakistan so that the issue was resolved amicably, but also held both India and Pakistan responsible for the cancellation of talks between the two countries. He didn't say a word of appreciation for New Delhi and its stand on Pakistan, Hurriyat leaders and Jammu & Kashmir. In fact, he gave everyone to understand that his party was not happy with the BJP and the BJP-led government at the Centre.
The BJP knew what the PDP said through its chief spokesperson, but it didn't muster courage to take on him and defend what the Union Government did last Saturday that put Pakistan and Hurriyat leaders on the mat. It was neither here nor there when asked to explain its view on what the PDP said. Srinagar-based BJP spokesperson Khalid Jehangir, in fact, came to the rescue of the Government. He brushed aside the criticism of the State Government in handling the situation.
"The restrictions on separatists were routine as they are put under house arrest almost every Friday to maintain law and order," he said. He virtually endorsed the Beg's view on the arrest and release of Kashmiri separatists last Thursday. Beg had, it bears recalling, on Sunday claimed that the Chief Minister, who also held the Home Department, didn't know if the Kashmiri separatists had been arrested and stated that he ordered their release the moment he came to know about these arrests.
All this should serve to demonstrate that the BJP has been on the defensive since day one and that it has no say whatsoever. It's no wonder then that the people of Jammu region are terming the BJP as the representative and spokesperson of Kashmir and blaming it for all the Jammu's woes, as also for all the nation's woes in Kashmir. The BJP has lost its way, they are saying, adding that the "its political conduct would culminate in its political demise sooner than later".
