Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 25: Allegedly at the instance of a senior police officer, SHO of a police station in Jammu district was alleged to have extorted Rs 5 lakh from a dealer for selling "disputed" land to five to six families of Kashmir. A property dealer made plots of land and sold 5-6 of them to the families of Kashmir. When they started work on their plots, someone moved to court of law which stayed all operations on the land after hearing the petitioner. After the matter came to the notice of a senior police officer, he directed the SHO of the concerned police station to call the property dealer to the thana, according to police sources. The SHO called the property dealer, whose father is an influential person of the area, to the police station and lodged him in the lock up. Ultimately, a deal of Rs 5 lakh was finalised and the property dealer was freed by police, sources alleged. The SHO had told the property dealer that he had been picked up at the instance of the senior police officer, sources alleged. In the meantime, the Kashmiri families, who had come to know about the actual status of the land, approached the property dealer but he refused to return them their money. The police station is the last police installation in Jammu district and the land there is very costly. At one place, which falls under the jurisdiction of this police station, some Kashmiri Sikh families are also residing. |
