Early Times Report

Srinagar, Oct 2: To press for their regularization demands, Casual/need base Employees of various government Departments are camping inside Pratap Park at Lal Chowk for "Fast unto-Death" ahead of Upcoming Assembly session.
Employees working in different government Departments numbering around 62,000 on temporary bases while seeking justice to their long pending demands are all set to give tough times to Authorities during summer session of the Assembly here. After Protesting NYC's ,the need base and casual laborers of different government departments installed their camps under the banner of "Jammu and Kashmir Casual/ Daily Wagers Forum" here at Pratap Park and threatened that their protest will only end after government fulfills
their long pending demands particularly their Regularization. "We know it is going to be tough for us to stay here for fast unto death keeping in view Government attitude towards youth who are camped here from almost a month now, but we have no other option except work on do or die method,"said one protestor They said that despite Cabinet recommendation to the regularization of 3660 employees of different government departments, two successive coalition type governments are yet to regularize their services even after serving this nation for more than 22 years till date as temporary employees on a peanut salary. Protestors while insisting government to frame a policy for regularization of their services said that regularization policy for 62000 casual and need base employees of various government departments engaged after 1994 as well as the release of their pending wages said that successive Governments always sought services from them as per their wish but never bothered to address their grievances. The protesters said the successive governments have principally agreed to frame a regularization policy for employees working on temporary engagements and have repeatedly promised to announce a high power committee but despite announcements time and again from in and out of
state Assembly as well, nothing has been done so far unfortunately. Pertinently employees are camping inside Pratap Park at Lal Chowk here for fast unto death at a time when summer session of the state
Assembly is scheduled to commence from Saturday.
Already for almost a month now, Pratap Park has been housing NYC's who had been engaged by National conference-congress Government on temporary bases in various departments for "fast unto death" protest, However no breakthrough was achieved even after the state finance Minister, Dr Haseeb Drabu and Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Ghulam Nabi Azad visited the park.
Regularization of 3660 employees of different government departments erupted a massive controversy in NC-Congress Coalition government last year after then Minister for irrigation and flood control, Sham Lal Sharma resigned with allegations on NC Ministers for including people through illegal means in decided list of total 3660 temporary employees of various departments.
Minister of state for irrigation and flood Control, Abdul Majeed Padder while talking to Early Times said that they are committed to regularize casual and Need based employees, However regularization of
3660 employees lingering from a long time now is in priority of his government.
