Students forced to work as bonded labourers

Kishtwar Oct 2: In a shocking incident of forcing the school children's to work as bonded labourer, the students of Higher Secondary School Sounder in remote Dachhan area of Kishtwar district were asked by his own teacher to act as a laborer for shifting some personal material to the house of the said teacher.
As per the details available with "Early Times" the incident was reported yesterday when the local staff member directed the students to accompany him and the same order was followed by the students.
After following the teachers direction, the said teacher asked them to carry the jute bags filled with some personal belongings of the said teacher which not only shocked the students, but also to the villagers who clicked the photographs of these students working as a bonded labourer for the said teacher and provided the same to "Early Times" for highlighting the issue.
The villagers informed the "Early Times" that the incident is not a new one, adding that in past similar things happened regularly and further said that they have the reports that school management use the students as labourer for construction of the main gate of the school and later withdraw the bills of the same and fill their pockets.
The people also rued the poor infrastructure of the school and also the shortage of the staff and other facilities in the school.
They said that the school is run by incharge principal and demanded appointment of regular principal for the school.
While commenting on the incident, PDP block president Dachhan termed this as an unfortunate thing, adding that as soon as the matter was brought into his notice, he had decided to take up the matter with Education Minister once he (Education Minister) returns from Hajj pilgrimage.
A senior official in education department when contacted said that the department will look into the matter and will seek a detail report from the concerned officers of the education department.
He said that the parents of the students should come forward with a proper complaint so that the guilty teacher could be punished in accordance to law.
