Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 18: The worsening traffic mess has been the cause of concern for the people in Jammu region where road accidents especially hit and run accidents take place and the police is always found clue less. Such accidents are on increase in the region.
Despite the hue and cry raised by the people of the region there is no end in sight to increasing road mishaps and daily traffic snarls. Sources said that hardly there is any day left when half a dozen fatal road accidents don't take place in the region among them maximum cases are hit and run.
Sources said mostly such accidents take place on Pathankote Jammu National Highway with the Traffic Police and Executive police taking no cognizance of the same. The main reason for such traffic accidents is wrong driving, parking of vehicles especially trucks on National Highway and lack of check by traffic police especially on vulnerable spots.
Sources said in most accident cases the drivers fly after hitting a pedestrian or a scooterist as well as LMV leaving no clue behind and such drivers go untraced. Even the families of people killed in such type of road mishaps fail to get any compensation as the police is not in a position to perform legal formalities, sources added.
Scores of hit and run accidents have taken place on Jammu.-Pathankote NH in last two months in which there was no trace of the vehicle and driver which was involved in the accident as evading the eye of police and people they managed to flee leaving the victim to die in the pool of blood.
Though the people raised a hue and cry over increasing road accidents the authorities at the helm of affairs are mute spectators. It is not on NH but even on interior roads the fatal road mishaps are taking place and in maximum cases the drivers fly from the spot after hitting a pedestrian or a LMV. Yesterday in Plasar Basholi a 65 year pillion rider was killed after the two wheeler was hit by an unknown vehicle. There was not a clue of the vehicle which hit the scooter. The scooterist also fled after the accident leaving the pillion rider in pool of blood who died later.
Such type of accidents are reported from some other parts of the region daily and often it is seen that drivers manage to escape safely after the accidents due to the failure of police vigil.
