Early Times Report

Jammu, Nov. 22: A large number of activists of National Secular Forum (NSF) today protest demonstration against the Jammu University (JU) authorities for making mockery of its off-site campuses, six of which are being run on adhoc arrangements despite seven years of existence and sought intervention of Governor to clear the mess created by the Vice Chancellor.
The activists led by Sr.Vice-President Surjit Choudhary raised high pitch slogans including "Gov Sahab Hosh Mein Aao, Jammu University Ko Bachao", "Nikamma Vice Chancellor Nahin Chalega- Nahin Chalega" and "Jammu University Mein Ghotalio Ki Jaanch Karo- Jaanch Karo," criticizing the State Government for being a mute spectator to the dictatorship of Vice Chancellor owing to which system was fast heading towards annihilation. Addressing a gathering here today, Surjit Choudhary said that eversince opening of offsite campuses of the University in various parts of Jammu Division, no significant efforts have been made by the University to bring these off-site campuses out of the transitory status at par with a full-fledged campuses due to lukewarm and wrong policies of the University Authority.
He said that most of these campuses are running in the rented buildings and efforts of the University Grants Commission to strengthen these campuses to erect buildings and other infrastructure have met with failure due to the callous attitude of the Jammu University. He further said that an amount of Rs. 125 corers was sanctioned by the University Grants Commission during the tenure of Prof.Varun Sawhney, then the Vice Chancellor of Jammu University for over all development of these campuses. He further said that half of the sanctioned amount was lapsed ending March 2015 putting the construction work to a grind half suddenly adding that because of negligence of the Vice Chancellor, the funds have been lapsed who has neither taken any action to fix the responsibility of the Chief Coordinator of Campuses nor did he make endeavor to approach the UGC to extend the grants. NSF demanded intervention of the Chancellor of University to save the sanctity of the Temple of Education and fix responsibility on the incumbent Vice Chancellor who utterly failed to prove his administrative mettle eversince occupation of the chair.
