Early Times Report
Vijaypur, Nov 22 : Raj Kumar, a Rehbar-e-Taleem teacher, is the lone teacher for 40 students of the Government Middle School at Parthyal village in the Vijaypur block of Samba district. Nearly 15 kilometers from the district headquarters, the school at Parthyal has only one teacher for eight classes with 22 female and 18 male students. The school was established as a primary school in 1965 and upgraded to a middle school in 2008 under the Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan. The teacher and students have to face many hardships due to lack of staff and proper infrastructure. "The shortage of teachers has forced students to attend joint classes in the ground at the school premises. It is very difficult to teach all the classes at the same time. I have to manage everything, including teaching, maintaining record, arranging mid-day meals and other activities," Raj Kumar, the teacher said. "The single teacher teaches us all subjects such as English, Hindi, Math, Science, etc. Sometimes the students of four classes study together in the ground. It becomes difficult for us to concentrate on our studies in such situation. When the teacher teaches one class, others remain silent. We hardly get a chance to learn all subjects," said Ajay Kumar, a student. "We send our children to the school with a hope they would learn something and would have a bright future, but the dearth of staff and infrastructure has taken toll on the academics of our children," said Bishan Dutt, a parent. The school lacks the basic facilities like, rooms, toilets, furniture and playground and above all has only one teacher. How can a single teacher control, maintain and teach eight classes alone at a time, he said. "We had approached the Chief Education Officer (ZEO) and had made him aware about the problems being faced by the students and lone teacher. He assured us that matter would be looked into and more teachers would be provided but nothing has been done so far, he added. "The transfers have been restricted to comply with the directions of the state government. We decided to club the school to nearby Government Middle School at Badla Brahmana, but the locals denied. We will see what can be done to improve the situation," said OP Bhagat, Chief Education Officer, Samba. We will try to utilize the service of another teacher from nearby school on need basis, he said. |
