Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 22: Police on Sunday arrested three persons and booked them for attempt to murder in connection with the attack on truck driver last evening. According to police sources, Farooq Ahmad, driver of oil tanker (JK01W-7638), who hails from Keegam Shopian, was injured after he was attacked by six persons near Nandini on Srinagar-Jammu highway on Saturday night and beaten. While police and CRPF men shifted the injured to hospital, the accused fled the spot. Acting swiftly, Jhajjar Kotli police arrested three of the accused this morning while the other three were still absconding. Their Indica car (JK02AJ/0070) was also seized, sources said. Those arrested have been identified as Sanjeev Kumar of Bhambla Pouni District Reasi, Rajinder Singh of Kun Dhroyian Katra and Sumit Sharma of Katra. The absconders included Surinder Singh of Kun Dhroyian Katra, Ranjit Singh of Bhambla Pouni Reasi and Vikram Singh of Kun Dhroyian. Police were also searching for the Swift Dzire (JK20/6199), which the assailants had with them at the time of the incident. "All were booked under section 307 of RPC," sources said. Police said all the assailants were drunk and they beat up the driver following some altercation while they were overtaking his oil tanker. The condition of the driver was said to be stable. |
