Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 22 : Former health minister of Punjab, Lakshmi Kant Chawla has said that women are equally responsible in encouraging corruption and vice-versa could be the torch bearers in erading the same from the society. "Whenever a husband beings anything monetary or the like disproportionate to his earnings' potential, it is his wife who matters either to receive it or reject it. If all women pledge not to be the part of corrupt earnings of their husbands, nation could be half-free from corruption," said Chawla. Speaking in one day seminar on empowerment of women and their role in society organized by Nari Shakti, Jammu Chapter, Laxmi Kant Chawla said that women have been doing their bit since long and now the onus also lies on them to make the society free from corruption and other social evils as their role in a family is paramount.Laxmi Kant Chawla, the chief guest on the occasion also praised the protocol followed by the state ministers while referring to Punjab's disorder. " Though deputy chief minister's wife is conducting this programme, no hype or unnecessary publicity was build up by people here, while in Punjab, a relative or a far-of cousin of deputy chief minister even becomes the centre of focus creating great commotion leading to public inconvenience," said Chawla while mentioning such political hullabaloo as one big aspect of corruption. All India Nari Shakti coordinator, Geeta Tai Gunde highlighted the importance of women in making society vibrant and women contribution towards making the nation self reliant and free from all the social evils. The function was attended by the Deputy Chief Minister, Nirmal Singh, MoS, Education, Priya Sethi, State Coordinator Nari Shakti, Mamta Singh, Prof. Kiran Bakshi, principal GCW, Gandhi Nagar, Sunita Gupta, chairperson Heritage school, Jammu, academicians, intellectuals and people from different walks of life. Minister for Education, Priya Sethi while speaking on the occasion, said that the women have a pivotal role to play in every facet of life and they are effectively contributing their bit in making the society vibrant. She said that they have been rendering an important role in education, polity and economics since times in memorial and their responsibility has further increased in the present context. Referring to the various initiatives taking by the government for the welfare of women and girl child, the Minister said that ever since the NDA came to power at centre, several flagship schemes have been launched which would go a long way in ensuring their empowerment. Mamta Singh also spoke on the occasion and gave out the scope and the work being done by the organization in the state since the last two decades. |
